Today is the Fourth of July. Its the day we celebrate America’s Independence. I urge you to take a few extra moments today and really think about what the day is all about.
As you have that cookout, or are watching those fireworks, take time to reflect on what it took to make it possible. Remember the men and women that said “enough”. Remember the brave soldiers that have fought and continue to fight to preserve that freedom. Take time to not bea Republican or a Democrat. Forget that you are a Conservative or a Liberal. Remember that you are an American. That neighbor, that co-worker, that “guy” on FACEBOOK that you disagree with, they are Americans.
And, I want to challenge you to take it further. Next time you are at a sporting event and the National Anthem is playing, don’t just go through the motions. Don’t just simply look at is as “that thing” we do before kickoff, tipoff, or the first pitch. Look at it as an opportunity to once again be thankful. Thankful to live in this great nation; Thankful to have the ability to disagree with that person next to you or even disagree with our leaders; Thankful to simply be able to be at the sporting event that you are at; and Thankful that you can cheer any way you like.
We are a nation that has many problems. And there a many more problems still to come. But, we have overcome time and time again. Is our system perfect? NO WAY!!!! We can and we must do better. And, the day that learn to put the bickering behind and truly decide to make it even better is the day that we will honestly improve what is already the greatest nation in the world.
May God continue to bless our land.
To you and yours…. Happy Independence Day.
