Familiar Face to Lead Lady Wolves

A familiar face will be on the bench when the girls basketball season tips next year at Reeds Spring.  Yes, a new hire has been made but its one that has Reeds Spring ties.

Last Night the Reeds Spring Board of Education approved the hiring of Jessica McNichols to lead the program.  Nichols has served the last three years as the head coach at Lockwood High School.  She was also the schools Athletic Director.   But, before heading to Lockwood, McNichols was an assistant at Reeds Spring.  Only leaving the District in order to pursue the opportunity to be a Head Coach.  Now she has gained that experience and is back.

McNichols is an Evangel graduate.   She will teach girls PE at the high school.

She will take over for Leslie Reeves-Eakins who is still in the district but stepped down from her coaching duties at the end of this season.

Kendrick Tabbed to Lead Basketball Wolves

Austin Kendrick has been named the new boy’s head basketball coach at Reeds Spring.  Kendrick comes to Reeds Spring after serving as an assistant at Parkview High School, in Springfield, for the past nine seasons.

The hiring was approved by the Board of Education last night.  He will also teach Physical Education.  Kendrick is a graduate of Missouri State University and received his Masters from William Woods.

In addition to Coaching basketball while he was at Parkview, he also assisted with the baseball program, and was sponsor of the Bass Fishing Club.

Kendrick takes over the program from Barry Yocom.  Yocom resigned his post at the end of the basketball season, as he transitions into administration.  He is set to become the Principal at Jasper High School next year.

Virus Doesn’t Stop Eakins or Garnett

Well, no games are being played, so there are no broadcasts to do.  There are not practices to attend and No sports press conferences taking place.  And, while there may have not been a party atmosphere with lots of family and friends, a couple of Signings have taken place, locally.

Reeds Spring senior Brandon Reeves-Eakins recently signed a National Letter of Intent to throw for the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Track and Field Team.  The hammer throw, although not a sanctioned high school event in Missouri, will be an event that Brandon will get to try his hand at.

Brandon is coming off of a shoulder injury that cost him his senior football season and was looking forward to a healthy track season before it was cancelled.

Across the Lake, over at Blue Eye, Nathan Garnett has inked a NLI that will send him to Evangel University in Springfield.  Garnett averaged nearly 17 points a game this past season.  He has accumulated a number of honors during his career at Blue Eye, including two time Best Floor General and Youngin of the year from my annual Perry Awards.

Leonard to Take Over at Hollister…

Hollister did not have to go very far to find the next leader of its volleyball program.   Hasin Leonard has been named Head Volleyball Coach effective the start of the 2020 season.

Leonard served as an assistant this past season to Alexis Mitchell and has been a math teacher at Hollister for two years.  In a press release from the school, Leonard remarked:  “As an athlete, I would never have had the success that I had without a coach that saw my potential and nurtured my confidence. When I decided to get into coaching I knew I wanted to be the coach who saw that light in athletes and pushed them towards it until they saw it too.  If I can help at least one young lady find that inner confidence and how to push towards her goals playing volleyball and she in turn uses it to push towards her goals in life, then I have had success as a coach.”

Leonard takes over the reigns from Mitchell, who has resigned her post at Hollister and will be on the staff at Branson, next year.
