Wolves Kick Season Off with Blowout

Reeds Spring traveled to Nevada to start the 2019 season last night.  While, the Wolves had handled the Tigers twice in 2018, its a new year and both squads have plenty of new faces.  But in the end, it was a even more lopsided result 61-6.

Things did not get off to a great start for Reeds Spring.  The opening drive ended in a interception.  That turnover was followed by a 45 yard Collin Witte touchdown run. The Tigers took a 6-0 lead under three minutes into the contest.

Reeds Spring would answer. Just over a minute later Colten Cramblett broke loose on the first of his long runs on the night, a 61 yard scoring run.  His extra point gave the Wolves a lead they would never relinquish

Nevada would only threaten one other time the whole night.  They drove inside the five yard line, only to fumble the ball into the endzone and have the Wolves recover for a touchback.

From there on, the Reeds Spring offense and defense totally controlled the action.  The Wolves not only went the whole night without punting, they scored a touchdown every time they got the ball, after that first drive.

An already shorthanded Tiger ball club became even more so as the night wore on.

Colton Cramblett led the way on the ground.  The junior fullback ran for 221 yards on only eight carries.  He scored three touchdowns.  Sean Gross added 104 yards on five runs and found the endzone, three times himself. JT Bayliff added 79 yards and two scores and Steven Youngblood added a score as well.

In all, Reeds Spring ran for nearly 450 yards on the night and did so on only 23 attempts.

The Wolves will have their home opener next week when they welcome Seneca to Carl Langley Field.

The tri-lakes went 3-1 on opening night.  In addition to the Wolves win.  A last  minute score gave Hollister  a road win at East Newton 23-16.  Branson took care of Republic to the tune of a 42-29 final.  And Forsyth fell at Skyline 49-8.

District Assignments Released…

The Missouri State High School Activities Association released Class and District assignments this morning for most fall sports.

In football there were no real surprises.  Reeds Spring and Hollister remain in the same district.  The only change is that Monett has dropped back down to Class 3 and they replace Clinton.  So, Reeds Spring, Hollister, Aurora, Monett, Mt Vernon, Seneca, Nevada, and Cassville make up Class 3 District 6.

Branson remains Class 5.  They are joined in their district by Carthage, Ozark, Nixa, and Republic

Forsyth is in a really tough Class 2 District.  Joining the Panthers, are Ava, East Newton, Houston, Mt View Liberty, Mountain Grove, Strafford, and Willow Springs.

It was thought that Branson Soccer had a shot to moved down a class, but that did not happen.  The Pirates are joined by Ozark, Nixa, and Republic

In Softball Reeds Spring is in a group with Hillcrest, West Plains, Rogersville, and Marshfield.

Branson’s softball girls are in a district with Glendale, Kickapoo, Parkview, Ozark, and Nixa

And finally Volleyball.  School of the Ozarks and Blue Eye are in the same Class 1 District.  They are joined by Billings, Crane, Galena, and Hurley

Forsyth is Class 2 They are joined by Clever, Fair Grove, New Covenant, Sparta, Spokane, and Strafford

Reeds Spring and Hollister will be in the Class 3 District 11 Tournament along with: Aurora, Cassville, Monett, Mt Vernon, and Seneca

Cross Country districts will be released in a couple of weeks…

MSHSAA

And Then, There Were 5….

The recruiting process for an athlete can be a long and tiresome process.  When you are a top level, Division One Caliber Athlete, it can be even more so.  Branson’s Priscilla Williams, no doubt, is in that category.

Williams, a senior to be, has dazzled fans with her ability to seemingly score from anywhere on the floor.  Her size, 6-3, allows her to shoot over most any guard trying to mark her.  But, she also has the speed and athleticism to go by them and get to the basket.  And, her ability to stop and pop the mid-range jumper, takes me back to the way basketball used to be played.

Recruiting services had her on their  radar before her family moved to Branson, two years ago.  And she has more than lived up to that hype.  Williams is currently listed as the #12 player in the class of 2020 according to ESPN and #3 guard.

On Sunday she announced via twitter that she has narrowed her college choices down to Five…  In no order: Mississippi State, Syracuse, Southern Methodist, Louisville, and Florida State, have made the final cut by Williams.

She plans to take her official visits and hope to have a decision before the Branson season begins.

Fall Sports Season… What Will it Bring?

As I sit in my office on this rainy day, I think of the next few months and how the local sports landscape will look..  I am really looking forward to a few things…

  1. Izzy Erickson in her senior year… is there anything this girl cant do on a softball field?
  2. Reeds Spring football… this will be fun.  A lot of new faces.  Young but eager.  These dudes are going to find a way to keep the winning season streak alive.
  3. Hollister Football… if they can stay healthy, they might very well take that next step.. I can see them hosting  a District game for the first time.
  4. Blue Eye Cross Country… Your girls were just short last year.. This year they take the State Title.
  5. Hollister Volleyball…  winning season… yes, it will happen
  6. Branson Soccer… dont know who will be in the district with them, heck, not even sure what class they will be… But, this is the year they play for a District Title
  7. Speaking of District Championships… Lady Wolves Softball, its your year.
  8. Branson Football plays a brutal schedule, but I think they have a good shot to improve their win total.
  9. Looking forward to seeing what Forsyth Football will look like.
  10. Can’t forget about CofO Volleyball either.  They are always tough, played for a National Title a year ago… they may just get another shot at it this year.

This just scratches the surface…  Lots to look forward to from our area schools this fall.

Ended up making a few predictions.  Who knows how accurate they will be?  I tend to have a lot of faith in “our” athletes.

Regardless of how things go.. I look forward to the journey.   Buckle up folks, its about to happen.
